In Korean cuisine, dishes ending in –tang, -jang, or –guk are soups. A jjigae is a heartier soup, more similar to a stew. In a Korean meal, soup is part of the main course of the meal meant to be enjoyed with side dishes and rice.

Banchan (side dishes) are served with entrees to compliment the main dish or complete the meal. Kimchi is probably the most famous banchan and serves to refresh the palette as well as break down fats with it's refreshing spice and acidity. These are larger portions for your enjoyment at home.
